Ukraine's Missing Children

Ukraine’s Missing Children

February 20, 2025

Dear UFF Friends and Supporters,

Today we address one of the war’s most devastating aspects – the forced displacement of Ukrainian children. While exact numbers remain difficult to verify, the scale of this crisis demands attention.

According to Ukraine’s National Information Bureau, 19,546 children have been forcibly removed to Russia, Belarus, and even South Ossetia. However, some researchers, including American human rights activist Nathaniel Raymond, estimate the number could reach 30,000, with 10-12,000 children sent to “re-education camps.”

The statistics tell a grim story:

• 599 children have lost their lives

• 1,759 have sustained injuries

• 2,057 are still missing

• 37,565 have been found

• Only 388 deported children have been returned

Russia claims over 730,000 children have crossed its borders since February 2022, though most reportedly traveled with relatives. However, international law requires detailed documentation for unaccompanied children – information Russia has failed to provide to the International Committee of the Red Cross.

UFF continues supporting affected families through evacuations and humanitarian aid, helping prevent more children from facing forced displacement. With your support, we work to keep Ukrainian families together and safe.

Thank you for standing with Ukraine!
